Motor Vehicle Accident
Route #419 & Deck Road
Monday, September 3, 2007
At 5:34 PM, Company #27 was dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries. Additional callers reported a serious accident with entrapment. Chief Feick ("27-10") arrived on location and assumed command. He confirmed one subject entrapped and requested an aero medical unit to fly. The company responded with the Car (QRS), Rescue, and Engine.
Tow vehicles nearly head on, with the impact sending one of the vehicles into a large stone wall that surrounds a cemetery that sits along Wintersville Road. The car impacted the wall at the driver's side "B" post. Working with EMS, the crews performed a few quick cuts, and a roof flap to allow for a rapid vertical extrication of the male driver, who's condition was rapidly deteriorating. The driver of the second vehicle was self-extricated with very minor injuries.
The engine crew established a landing zone adjacent to the accident scene for MedEvac #7.
Crews were in service for a little over an hour, before returning to station.
