June 2006 Flooding Response and Information
Beginning Sunday, 6/25/06 and continuing until late in the day on Wednesday, 6/28/06, the entire eastern part of Pennsylvania received flooding as a result of an unusual weather pattern that dumped as much as 18-20 inches of rain (this from several of the members that have rain gauges) in the area within a few short days.
During this time frame the Company responded to 14 fire/rescue emergency calls and approximately 60 public service calls (flooded basements). The Company provided these services with over 25 personnel, 5 portable pumps, several POV's, and Engine #27-1. The Company also maintained staffing for Engine #27 and Rescue #27 at the station to make sure that these pieces were able to respond to other emergency calls in a rapid fashion.
Several of our members, who responded to many of these calls, also suffered water related damage in their homes. Fortunately the damage they suffered was minor. However this demonstrates the high level of commitment on the part of these members to keep our community safe. We thank all of the residents for their help and understanding during this period.
The Governor has declared Berks County a "disaster area", and as such there will be various programs being put in place to aid residents and businesses that suffered losses. Additional information on the disaster declarations and how to clean up flood damage is available on the Berks County Government Website or the PA Emergency Management Agency Website
