The Keystone Fire Company of Rehrersburg is a non-profit volunteer fire company formed in 1918 with the initial intent of protecting Rehrersburg from the ravages of fire. Since that time the company has become very diversified in the services provided, including rescue services, and emergency medical quick response services.
The company provides primary fire response service to the eastern portion of Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, PA. In addition, the company provides mutual-aid rescue services to the entire township, as well as numerous surrounding municipalities. Tulpehocken Township is approximately 85% agricultural. There is no public water system (which means no fire hydrants), so fire dams, cisterns, creeks, ponds, and tankers make up the fire fighting water supply system.
The company is also extensively trained in rescue, with specialization in farm/agricultural rescue. The fire company has been certified as a Quick Response Service ("QRS") by the PA Department of Health. The company currently operates with 5 pieces of apparatus, including 2 engines, 1 rescue, 1 tanker, and 1 QRS vehicle.
